Lawrence House MuseumLawrence House, Launceston, is a fine Georgian house built in 1753, located in a street which John Betjemen described as 'having the most perfect collection of 18th Century townhouses in Cornwall'. It is owned by the National Trust and leased to Launceston Town Council, who use it to house the town museum, and as a civic centre. The museum is spread over three floors of the house with numerous exhibits divided between loosely themed rooms. The exhibits focus predominantly on local history, inhabitants of the town whose activities were recognised in their day, and Launceston's association with Australia. Admission is free but donations, which support the work of the museum, would be appreciated. Disabled access to the ground floor only ( 5 rooms ). Disabled WC. Hours of Opening Open at other times by arrangement. Address9 Castle Street Launceston Cornwall PL15 8BA Telephone 01566 773277 |
